Volunteers Week is a time to say thank you for the fantastic contribution volunteers make. This year as part of our 80th anniversary celebrations we are working with Halton and St Helens Voluntary Community Action to put on an event to find the longest serving volunteer within the Borough and also a recruitment fair in order to encourage members of the public who are considering some form of volunteering to find out more.
A number of volunteer Organisations and groups will be in attendance on the day.
This event will take place in St Helens Town Hall on Tuesday 4th June 2019
Between 10-11am, there will be volunteer awards presented to the nominated volunteers and from 11-2pm, the event will be open to the general public.
Why is volunteering important?
As well as helping others, volunteering has been shown to improve volunteer’s wellbeing too.
- In 2017/18, 20.1 million (38%) people in the UK volunteered formally at least once a year and 11.8 million (22%) of people did so at least once a month.
- ‘Wanting to do good’ is the most common motivation to volunteer. In 2017/18, 46% of people said that they volunteer to improve things and help others.
- 67% of volunteers give their time to charities and community groups, but many others also volunteer in the public and private sectors
If you have time to spare, and want to know more about volunteering within the Borough, come and have a chat on the day.
